Cozumel Island

Cozumel is a beautiful island located off the southeast coast of Mexico in the Caribbean. Rife with history, traditions and beautiful sights I'm lucky enough to call it home.

Cozumel has traditions dating back from the days of the Mayans. It was the sanctuary of Ixchel, goddess of love and fertility, each year the Mayans would row to Cozumel from the mainland (were the X'Caret park is currently located) in their dug out canoes to worship Ixchel, women were not allowed to return to the mainland unless they were pregnant. Today this crossing is recreated and it's a beautiful show.

More modern day traditions include the Cedral Festivities ( in memory of the first families that permanently settled on the island), the Rodeo de Lanchas Mexicanas Fishing Tournament and of course Carnaval! when the whole town flocks the streets in costume and dance, it's a street party akin to the Carnival in Rio but with a family flavor to it!

On the sporting side the diving is superb, the best in the world bar none! With great visibility, warm blue water and reef so close to shore that you can swim up to them there's no place like Cozumel for both beginners and experts!!
Fishing is world class and you can catch mahi-mahi, wahoo, and spearfish.  I just wish the locals would finally learn the importance of Catch and Release, so if you go fishing make sure the crew keep the catch alive and healthy!
Cozumel has been host to the Ironman competition for the past four years, with each year welcoming more competitors and friends than the year before! Locals are warm and always encourage the ironmen and women during this grueling test of endurance and stamina.
The last year several people have started to stand up paddle board, ingot my board last year and it's amazing to go out for a paddleat sunset with the magnificent waterfront and huge cruisshipsin the background!
Wind is perfect for longboarding, and legend has it that there's a secret spot on the south tip of the island with awesome waves that is perfectly sideshore when the wind is just right...

The islands main activity is tourism, mostly from cruise ships, so we get bustling activity during the day and nice, quiet evenings... Seafood is superb and there are some really nice hotels and apartments for short-term rental, you can find everything really easy on the Internet but if you have any questions just leave a comment and I'll be happy to help!
